Chess Olympiad Venue
The venue will be the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram (alias: Mamallapuram) Resort & Convention Center, 60 kilometers south of central Chennai. It is located in Mamallapuram, one of the famous tourist sites in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site of seventh- and eighth-century Hindu monuments.
Mamallapuram, also known as Mahabalipuram, is a town in Chengalpattu district in the southeastern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, best known for the UNESCO World Heritage Site of 7th- and 8th-century Hindu Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram. It is one of the famous tourist sites in India.[1] The ancient name of the place is Thirukadalmallai.

The Olympiad venue is the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort and Convention Centre. It is located on the East Coast Road (ECR). 23kms away from the Old Mahaballipuram Road (OMR) in South Chennai.

Chennai has the legendary 15th world champion, Viswanathan Anand, among its seven million inhabitants, as well as the talented rising star GM Praggnanandhaa R.

Chess Olympiad Torch Relay
The first-ever Chess Olympiad Torch Relay took place on the 19th of June at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi lit the Flame and handed it over to 15th World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand. The Torch will travel through the country to 75 cities, celebrating the 75th Year of the country’s Independence and India’s 1st ever Chess Olympiad.
As of 2022, FIDE will recommend planning official Torch Relay Ceremonies for all Chess Olympiad organizers, including the 2024 Olympiad that will take place in Budapest, Hungary.

India Squad for 44th Chess Olympiad
AICF announces biggest-ever Indian squad for 44th Chess Olympiad.
Vidit Gujrathi, who led India to the gold medal in the 2020 Chess Olympiad, held virtually, will be part of India’s first team in the open section alongside Pentala Harikrishna and Chennai-based Krishnan Sasikiran, who has represented India on numerous occasions. The 19-year-old Arjun Erigaisi and SL Narayanan will also be part of the first team.
Arjun has been impressive in the last year and will be one of the players to watch out for as he makes his debut at the event along with SL Narayanan, whose solid style has been very impressive.
Indian Squad Second Team
On the other hand, the second team will comprise young talents, who have been making headlines with their consistent performances in the last couple of years, including Praggnanandhaa R, Nihal Sarin, Gukesh D and Raunak Sadhwani. They will be making their debuts at the Chess Olympiad. The team will also have experienced player Adbhiban B, who was a part of the Indian side which won the bronze medal in 2014.
