Cyclone Mandous
Chennai Weather News Live Updates: The storm lies 500 km east-southeast of Karaikal and about 580 km southeast of Chennai. IMD issues orange alert for Chennai; Red alert for neighbouring districts.
Cyclone Mandus is located in Southwest Bay of Bengal, about 500 km east-southeast of Karaikal. It will gust to 70 kmph over North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh over Puducherry and Sriharikota coast on December 09 midnight.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a red alert for 3 districts of Tamil Nadu including Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kanchipuram and Puducherry due to heavy rain. Orange alert has been issued for 9 districts including Tiruvallur, Chennai, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet.
Preventive Measures for Cyclone Mandous
DGP has instructed the district SPs and other officials to be prepared with preventive measures ahead of the rain. Volunteers from the fishermen’s community are also instructed to be ready with rescue boats. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed in the state and Puducherry. While six teams are deployed in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai and Chennai districts, three are deployed in the Union Territory with two in Puducherry and one in Karaikal.

Cyclone Mandous will bring heavy rains in North Tamil Nadu today and tomorrow: North Tamil Nadu, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rains from December 8 to 10 and isolated very heavy rains are expected over North Tamil Nadu on December 9, 2022.
