Thiruvarur Theppam festival: A grand raft is being prepared for Tiruvarur Theppathru Festival! The festival typically takes place in the Tamil month of Vaigasi, and is a spectacular event that attracts thousands of devotees and tourists alike.

Tiruvarur: Theppath festival on 25th May; Preparations are intense! The Theppa festival is going to be held in Tiruvarur on 25th May with much fanfare. Thiruvarur Legislative Assembly Member Poondi Kalaivanan personally visited the raft building work.

Thiruvarur Theppam Festival

The Thiruvarur Theppam Festival is one of the most vibrant and spiritually significant festivals in Tamil Nadu, celebrated with immense fervor and devotion. This annual festival, dedicated to Lord Thyagaraja, is held in the ancient town of Thiruvarur, which is renowned for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance.

Everything is grand in the world famous Tiruvarur Thiagarajar Temple. It is said that the Tiruvarur Theppam, which is strolling in such a huge form, and the Theppam festival are also the pride of the people of that town.

This temple boasts of having the largest Chariot in Asia. Another special feature of this temple is the Theppam festival. Tiruvarur Thiagarajar temple raft is 50 feet long and 50 feet wide. Height about 30 feet. In this, the raft is built in 432 empty barrels that can float in water in 2 layers, so that around 500 people can board the raft. More than 20 laborers are involved in the construction of this raft for more than a week, about a day.

Theppam (Float Festival): The centerpiece of the festival is the Theppam itself. On the auspicious day, the deities are placed on an ornately decorated float, adorned with flowers and lights. The float is then set adrift on the Kamalalayam tank
