Q1. What is FASTag?

Q3. Is FASTag mandatory?

Usage, Validity & Blacklisting

Q5. What does ‘blacklisted’ FASTag mean?
A blacklisted tag is blocked by the bank and cannot be used. This usually happens due to low balance, incorrect usage, or violations.

Q6. How long is FASTag valid?
The physical FASTag is valid for 5 years. You only need to recharge it periodically.

Q7. Why are toll rates different for vehicles?
Toll charges depend on vehicle category, load capacity, and whether the vehicle is for personal or commercial use.

Q8. Where can I buy a FASTag?

Q9. What documents are required to buy FASTag?

  • Individuals: Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle, passport-size photo, and valid ID/address proof.

Pricing & Deposits

Q10. How much does FASTag cost?

  • One-time tag fee: up to ₹100
  • Refundable security deposit: approx. ₹200 (varies by vehicle class)
  • First recharge: usually ₹200

KYC & One Vehicle Rule

Q11. What is the ‘One Vehicle One FASTag’ rule?
Only one FASTag can be active per vehicle. Duplicate or older tags linked to the same vehicle will be deactivated.

Q12. How do I check if multiple FASTags are linked to my vehicle?
You can verify through the NPCI FASTag portal using your vehicle registration details.

Q13. How to update FASTag KYC?
Log in to the IHMCL portal, upload your ID proof, address proof, and photo. KYC approval usually takes 7 working days.

Q14. What happens if KYC is not updated after 2 years?
You will not be able to recharge further, though your existing balance can still be used until exhausted.


Recharge & Payment

Q15. How can I recharge FASTag?

  • Via bank portal or app (for bank-issued tags)
  • Using the My FASTag App (for NHAI tags)
  • Through UPI, Net Banking, debit/credit card
  • Cash recharge at BBPS-enabled PoS at toll plazas

Q16. Can I recharge using UPI?
Yes. Use your UPI app and send money to the FASTag UPI ID format:

Q17. What is the minimum recharge amount?
Recharges start from Re. 1. The first recharge is generally ₹200.

Q18. What if recharge fails?

Toll Transactions

Q19. How are toll charges deducted?
When your vehicle passes a FASTag-enabled lane, the RFID reader triggers a deduction from your linked account.

Q20. Where is FASTag accepted?
FASTag is accepted at all national highways and many state highway toll plazas. Look for dedicated FASTag lanes.

Q21. How do I confirm correct toll deduction?
You will receive SMS alerts for every deduction, and toll charges are also displayed at the plaza.


Complaints & Issues

Q22. What if the wrong toll amount is deducted?
Raise a complaint within 40 days. Refunds are generally processed within 20–30 working days.

Q23. What if toll plaza equipment fails?
If your FASTag is valid and has balance, you are allowed to pass without payment.

Q24. How to report issues at toll plazas?

Passes & Exemptions

Q25. Can I get a monthly pass?
Yes. Apply online through the IHMCL portal by selecting your toll plaza and pass type.

Q26. Who is eligible for exempted FASTag?
Exempted FASTag is available for dignitaries, government vehicles, ambulances, vehicles for disabled persons, MPs, and MLAs.

Q27. Is FASTag mandatory for exempted vehicles?
Yes, exempted vehicles must also display FASTag for identification.


Lost Tag & Vehicle Transfer

Q28. What if my FASTag is lost or damaged?
Contact your issuing bank to block it. A new tag will be issued, and the balance will be transferred.

Q29. What if I sell my vehicle?
The seller must close the existing FASTag account. The new user should apply for a fresh FASTag.


My FASTag App

Q30. What is the My FASTag App?
A mobile application that allows users to:

FAQ – FASTag Annual Pass

Q1. What is a FASTag Annual Pass?
A FASTag Annual Pass allows you to pay a fixed amount in advance for unlimited or discounted toll usage at a particular toll plaza or stretch for one year. Instead of paying each time, you can use your FASTag to travel seamlessly.

Q2. How is it different from a monthly pass?

  • Monthly Pass: Valid for 30 days, generally for frequent local commuters.
  • Annual Pass: Valid for 12 months, best suited for regular highway users, commercial fleets, or long-term commuters.

Eligibility & Purchase

Q3. Who can apply for a FASTag Annual Pass?
Any vehicle owner with an active FASTag linked to their vehicle registration number is eligible. Both private and commercial vehicle owners can apply.

Q4. Where can I buy a FASTag Annual Pass?
You can purchase it online through the IHMCL portal or from the respective toll plaza office where you wish to use it.

Q5. What documents are required?

Q8. Can I use one Annual Pass for multiple vehicles?
No. An Annual Pass is linked to one vehicle registration number and its FASTag only.

Q10. How do I recharge or renew my Annual Pass?

Q13. What if my vehicle is sold?
The Annual Pass is non-transferable. The seller should close the FASTag Users account, and the new owner must apply for a fresh tag and pass.

Q14. What if toll is deducted despite having an active Annual Pass?
Raise a complaint with your bank or call the toll-free helpline 1033. Refunds are processed after verification.
